Dutch pallet company officially inaugurates new building

Mopal Palletindustrie moved into a new building directly behind the existing building in early November. “We were beyond our premises, both in terms of location and production,” she begins Anita Manniën. She supported the business transition of her three partners in this Dutch company, Arie and Jacqueline Monhemius, and Pierre van de Wijngaart, as her project manager. “These three years have not been without their challenges, but we have achieved great results.”

The company, which specializes in buying, repairing, and selling used pallets, decided to revamp three years ago. “What do you do?” Anita nods. “First, everyone had to be on the same page because wanting to innovate has consequences. This is a long-term project. The decision was unanimous.” It was perfect for the course I thought.

“Directly following that, you have to ask: Where do we want the company to go? We want innovation and sustainability to be key steps, not a series of small steps. A step fit for tomorrow’s world. We started with these principles. Sustainability and innovation have therefore become the two most important pillars of our new plan.” she explains.

“Use Scanner”
With that in mind, the Mopal team started trading. Anita and Jacqueline decided to focus on the refurbishment, while Alier and Pierre were responsible for innovating the production process. “Previously, all the pallets were separated whole in the sorting area and then sorted by type and put together on the premises.

“We have been trying to find ways to optimize that process for several years, but there is still no concrete solution. No. It is therefore impossible to develop a semi-automatic system for classifying them.We have found many possible solutions.

“But in the end Pallet Sorting Systems (PSS) presented us with a system that met our requirements. We met Roel de Vries from PSS and based on our wishes and requirements, he We came up with the idea of scanning the pallets, we are at the forefront of the second hand pallet market in Europe,” says Pierre.

Arie explains: Fixed. The whole thing is sent to the scanner. Those pallets are scanned and based on this information he one of the four robots moves the pallets into place. “

“First of all, we improved the efficiency of the sorting and repair lines. We also worked to save labor and ease the working conditions of our employees. This will also be attractive to our future employees. We have created a company that provides .” with all the amenities that come with it. “

almost circular
As previously mentioned, in addition to automating the production process, sustainability was high on the list of priorities for Mopar’s new building. “It’s very important to us,” she continues Anita.

“A third party and we tried to find reusable materials and used recycled materials. In addition, the rooms were equipped with second-hand or locally produced items. making it more sustainable and giving it an A+ label. The installation of solar panels is the final step in this complete rebuild.”

The importance of starting over is also central to palletizing. Pierre: “We have tried to find ways to recycle our products, and now we are almost completely circulating. For example, we are dealing with 75% used pallets. We’ll fix it and reuse it. It really doesn’t work anymore.”

“They are then shredded and used in the plywood industry.” For Mopal, the weekly waste stream of remaining plastic and sawdust is less than 600 kg. “Again, reducing residual waste fits perfectly into our policy. This is becoming more and more important for our customers. “I’m trying to do that,” he says.

Certain expertise is required in the field of fruits and vegetables
One-third of Mopal Palletindustrie’s customer base consists of customers in the fruit and vegetable sector. “That was how we started and over the years we have acquired many clients and expertise in the field. I know.”

“These demands are becoming more and more demanding. Our sector know-how and newly operated sorting and repair lines allow us to perfectly meet them. The fruit and vegetable sector is within Mopal Pallet Industry’s customer portfolio. has been an integral part of the group,” explains Pierre.

Mopal Palletindustrie is therefore confident in the future. “This innovative and sustainable transition means that we, our team and[future]clients have a company with a great future where we can grow tremendously together,” she said. Anita concludes.
