7 events, light shows to check out in Houston this holiday season

Numerous events, markets and light shows are held around the Heights, River Oaks and Montrose areas from November through January.

November 18-December 31: Holiday Pop-up Shop at Asia Society Texas Center

This exclusive holiday shop includes vintage kimonos and accessories by Kimono Zulu, and upcycled items by Magpies & Peacocks, who create new clothes by taking unwanted fabrics and textiles from landfills. Nov 18-Jan 2: City Lights Downtown Holiday Magic

Visit eight themed holiday villages, including Holiday Ice Village at Discovery Green and Land of Suites at Hilton Americas. 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Prices vary depending on the event. Locations vary throughout downtown Houston. www.visithoustontexas.com/citylights

Nov. 18-Jan. 8: Zoo Lights at Houston Zoo

Come see the lights at the Houston Zoo, including animal-themed lanterns. Canopy of shining flowers. A 33-foot-tall color-changing holiday tree. This event is closed on December 7th, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. 5:30-10:30 pm Free (children 2 and under), $19.45-$29.70 (adult and his children 3 and up). November 26th: Local cuisine holiday market

December 2: Holiday lights open for Deck the Park at Memorial Park

This is the kickoff for a month-long nightly light show at Memorial Park’s Clay Family Eastern Glades. The event features food, hot cocoa and blankets while enjoying a preview of the light show followed by a screening of ‘Elves’. 4pm-9pm $5 (children), $10 (adults). 552 E. December 3-January 1: Deck the Park Holiday Lights at Memorial Park

December 10-11: POST Houston Holiday Market
